A GRE verbal of above 600-700 is by no means an impossible target, even for an Indian student.

I have studied in an English-intensive environment from the first grade, and I find the GRE verbal easy enough.

Trust me, aiming for a verbal score like 800 is a huge scale wastage of time.

People into science or management fields have better things to do rather than mugg up the whole english dictionary and synonymns/antonyms.

Students should aim for a decent score in verbal 550 around for GRE.

People with exceptionally high verbal score do not have a distinctive advantage above people who have 550 around. The complete profile matters

I agree that mugging Verbal words is not not going to get you anywhere. But, people who get 800 in Verbal will had acquired the required english skills not by muggin up GRE, but from childhood days of using such high vocabulary in day day use.

Disagree –

People with exceptionally high verbal score do not have a distinctive advantage above people who have 550 around. The complete profile matters

Since they have such high GRE Verbal, they are admitted in Harvard. Students aiming for 550, unless they have very high standing profile, they are not going to Harvard. Thats what differentiates from becoming CEO or regular employee.
