Last week I started writing about Average GRE Scores for Graduate School admission for various universities.

If you haven’t read than, here is the link for average GRE Score

University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill

UNC is located near RTP and its well know for MBA and Science programs. In fact its one of the top schools for both MBA and Science program. Engineering program is also very good. Students usually get job in Research Triangle Park area near UNC Chapel Hill after graduation.

There are so many IT companies( IBM, Cisco, NetApp, EMC, Microsoft, Lenovo, HP, Qualcomm, ..) in RTP. So, UNC – chapel Hill is one of the few universities where finding job after completing Master’s degree will not be an big issue.

I received a 146 quant, 138 verbal and I haven’t received my Analytical writing score back yet. I was wondering would these scores be high enough to get any MBA programs such UNC Chapel Hill, NCSU, Wake Forest and Elon. I have a 3.34 from UNC Charlotte with a BSBA in Finance. I currently work at State Employees’ Credit Union Contact Center. I really like to enroll in the Fall of 2013 to start my MBA. I was planning on retaking the GRE after this month because I believe I can do better on the Quantitative section of the GRE. Any suggestions??

  2. hi this is Praktan i got 730quant and 330verbal (298 new gre) want to kno getting chances in good universities in US my acad is 59% Mumbai university(EXTC)

  3. I have completed B.Sc.Physics and 1 yr. Master in Public Health as Epidemiology major. I have gained 2 yrs of work experience in pharmaceutical marketing and about 2 yrs experience in public health field and For about 2 years I have been serving as a lecturer for Bachelor of Public Health Program at one of the academic institution. Do you think my work experience and academic degrees are well enough to get enrolled for PHD program in Public health? And beside this I am preparing for GRE too.

    • Dear Prem,

Indian format of 3years degree program after 10+2 are not recognized by the US universities. They follow a 4 years BS degree program. May be you need to do an MS first and then a PhD. Even for selection of MS you need to have an equivalent BS degree. All engineering degrees (4 years) in India are recognized and for science background people, 3 years BSc followed by a 3 years B.Tech or 2 years MSc is equivalent to BS program.

      Regards,

      Subhasish

    • Even a 3 yr BSc followed by a 1-yr Masters like yours is eligible.

All things being equal, you will definitely get an admission into a PhD program. Please see if there is good transportation in UNC Charlotte.
The cost of living is a little higher than a non-metro. Don’t work with a professor who does not treat immigrant/intl students well.
Don’t get a room mate who spends way too much on smoking and drinking.

i have heared that there is no placement facility in us universities we have to get jobs our selves,is it true?

    • yes u have heard right. u have to look for jobs and internships (looking for them ain't very different form each other) through internet, friends, craigslist etc. u may even have to go every company u r interested in urself.

for further details look out for 'how to find jobs/internships in us' on blog. m sure there are couple which could help u out.
