This post is in response to question Vivek had asked about getting bank statement for F2 Dependent Visa Stamping
Hi!
I am on F-1 visa and enrolled in a PhD programme.
I am planning to marry in Jan and bring my wife along when I come back in Feb. I would be very grateful if you could give me some related info >1. I am short by about $500/year from the available funds required to support one dependent as per the requirement by International Office at my office to issue an I-20 for my spouse. I get a TA assistanship from my University. This is the only fund I have.
I offered the Int. Off. to show them my bank statement for the last 3 months, which is over $6000. But, they refused.
What are my options?2. I am expecting some additional fund, though little, from my univ )NOT CERTAIN). So, I may be able to fulfill the fund requirement conditions for I-20 for my spouse.
Now, after I get the I-20 with the total necessary fund (Though just enough) coming from my Univ., do I still need to show my bank balances in order to secure a Visa.
3. What are the other suggestions you have for me?
Please, respond ASAP.
Thanks,
Vivek

When I was in school, there were few similar instances, where some of my friends had to get I-20 extension. To get I-20 extension, International Office requires the student to show bank balance for 1 additional semester. Which is almost the similar to your situation. But, my friends had no funding to show bank balance for 1 semester. Usually, in that scenario, friends/roommates gave the money we had in out bank account to him. He was able to collect the required amount from his friends and got the bank statement. Used that bank statement to get I-20 extension.

Yes, you will need to show financial resources that to support your dependent to get Visa. Its same process as getting F1 Visa. If you get bank statement to show International Office, you can use the same bank statement to get F2 visa, provided its not more that 6 months old. I believe that will be not the case with you.

I don’t believe your situation is complicated as other I have seen. All you need is bank statement and other supporting documents to get F2 Visa. Good Luck.
