    Dear HSB,

I have got admits from USC Viterbi, Columbia, UPenn, UFlorida and UMaryland for Chemical Engineering (MS Programs). Objective after MS completion is a good job in US itself. Which school do you suggest is best for my requirements?

    Sincerely Yours,
    Pratik

    Hey HSB,

Thanks for all the help. I got admits from ASU, IIT, SJSU and NYU Poly. Still waiting for UTD, UTA and CSU- Sacramento. Got reject from UPenn. My GRE was 1060. TOEFL was 90. I am working with a Fortune 500 company in India since 1.5 years after completing my engineering. Also, I did my internship in an MNC company. I had awesome Reco’s and SOP’s. I did some research and found out that Arizona don’t have that much jobs while Texas has many. But ASU is higher ranked than UTD. Can you tell me which is better : UTD or ASU for Electrical Engineering (specialization in Communication)? Please help me.

  4. hi,

its an awesome experience to share with.. congrats..

i scored 1330 in GRE, 116 in TOEFL and have a GPA of 9.32.. what i wish to know is what do you exactly mean by strong Reco's: the Recommender's status is the prime factor that matters or what he mentions about you??

No chance at all in University of California, Los Angeles. Aid and assistantship only in dreams. Atleast 1400 for UCLA. Even for admission in other decent universities you need atleast 1100+.

  12. Congrats!! for the admission and RA from U of M. Its a reputed university and has very good prospects too!!

Im a mechanical engineering student and my score is,

i did a research fellowship in IIT Gandhinagar on behalf of Jawaharlal Nehru Center for Advanced Scientific Research in Computation Fluid Mechanics and Non Modal analysis for a brief period of 2 months and i won paper presentations at various National Level Symposiums too..!!

So, do u think i can apply to U of M with a good TOFEL score?

If i do so will i get it?

or will u suggest me to take my GRE once again…? (my verbal was easy but i couldn't score properly.. so im nt very confident the second time)

    Can u please suggest me!!

  13. Hi,
Congrats on getting RA from UMinn. I wanted to know if RA was offered after you had accepted their admit or along with the admit? This may sound trivial but actually I am not sure when exactly is the RA offered to an international student. I have already got admit from UMinn, but I am waiting to hear from other universities as well. If you can reply to my query then it might help me in making the decision.
    Thanks

  14. Hi,

Many congrats for the admission and research assistantship. I have a question and would appreciate any details on it.

Did this research assistantship award, was mentioned to the student with the admission letter or it came directly with the I-20 form. I ask this, because I too have received a admission from University of Minnesota.

    Thank you.

    • I will post the I-20 that came with this offer letter.

    • Abhijeet Singh says:

      Hi,

Can you tell me when you received an admit from University of Minnesota? I too have applied for it and hoping for a positive reply.

      My profile is :

      GRE – 1430 (770Q + 660V + 4.0AWA)

GPA – 73% with Distinction from VTU (3.77 as per WES conversion)

Work Experience – 14 months in a top IT company

Have 2-3 decent awards including Training topper of the Company

      No research experience

Have applied for MS in CS. Any suggestion is welcome.

  15. Congrats to the chap ! University of Minnesota is pretty decent school. Does the school inform the student regarding RA/TA status along with I-20 or previously via email during the admit ?

    MANY THANKS

  17. Vaishnavi says:

    Hi,
Congrats. I'm sure you must be very pleased. My name is Vaishnavi, I'm a dental intern and UMinn is one of my priority schools. I'm due to write the GRE in march and will apply for fall'12 academic year. I was wondering if you could guide me with what sort of paper presentation you did and if you have done any prior research through your under-graduation. Do you have any work experience ?
In general what are the other criteria they look for in a prospective student?
I would be grateful if you would help me with my query.
    Thanking you,
    Vaishnavi

    • Hi,

      regards ,

      Sheerin

  18. Its quite complicated to see the admission process they actually follow. I applied to the same university for a different program that actually doesn't require GRE for granting admission as told by the graduate coordinator himself. And I got rejected from the same university.
Pgm I applied for : Bioproduct & Biosystem Engineering & Management.
    Profile:
    B.E. – 81.4%
    GRE -1130 (750Q +380V)
    TOEFL- 104
Successful Undergraduation research work that won the second place in state level engineering students' meet
Presented several papers in various conferences among which one was rewarded.
Have been working with a profile that should match the degree I opted from last 3 months.
    * May be my low GRE verbal score made them to reject.

    • ASHER IMAM says:

My GRE score is same (1130).. wanna ask u, for which semester you applied? and do you get approval from any university?

  19. Congratulations dude! This is really awesome!!

  20. Really, this is awesome. We get to know many things.

    Good HSB.
