Cost of Living @ USC

Adi, who graduated from USC with MS in Biotechnology sent this small write up that explains typical cost of living for a student from India at University of Southern California ( LA)

Cost of living in Los Angeles is pretty high when compared to most of the other US cities. Since, USC is located in downtown LA you need to make sure you live in a safe area. This should be the most concern and priority.

Usually a studio apartment in a safe neighborhood around USC will cost around $1200 and a single bedroom will be around $1300-$1500. I would say after sharing you need atleast $400 (max) for rent. Apart, for normal living another $200 can add-up. So approximately you will end-up spending $600 every month.

Students in studying in Texas spend around $250 to $400 per month. If you have more questions about USC, leave a comment to this article, he will add more detail to your queries. Also, you can read about Adi’s Biotechnology Job Search experience in 3 Parts.

Hi.
Firstly, thanks for the informative post.

I am applying to USC Annenberg this spring. As someone mentioned the lack of safety in Downtown, what would be ideal neighborhoods to reside in?

Thanks and apologies for bumping an old thread.

Burbank, Tarzana, Canoga Park, White Oaks, Winnetka, Santa Monica, Mailabu are some areas that are safer to live… usually u can guess from the rent. If u find a cheap place to live, u will come know why cheap…. when u got here u will come to know a lot. Try to live in Dorm for two months so that u can adjust later in the areas of ur choice!

Hi Varun. Thanks for your reply.

Does USC provide on-campus/dorm housing for its Graduate students?

Where are you studying?
