Q&A: Can I Apply in March; University Deadline is in July?

Hi how are you doing?I will be applying for fall 09 for ms in cs.The universities I will apply to have deadline of june or july,so can you please tell me weather there shud be any problem if I send my packets at the end of feb or beginning of march(as I have a backlog whose result will be out in Feb 1st week,so can apply before)?

University Deadlines

Majority of the colleges, universities have 2 deadlines. Early deadline for considering students for financial aid and regular deadline. If regular deadline is  in June, early deadline should be sometime in Nov to Dec of previous year.

Also, each department might have different deadline than what graduate school has. So, make sure you check both the department and graduate school deadline. Applying early is always better. It save you time and get to know the results much faster, if schools have rolling admission.

Applying Early?

Its always better to submit applications as early as possible. So, it provides enough time for you to prepare the documents and ample time for the school to send  I-20. You can avoid last minute wait to receive I-20.

Also, computer science department might have additional requirements than graduate school and some documents must be sent directly to department and some to graduate school. But, that’s varies from school to school. Make sure you read all the admission requirements and send all the documents. Sending few documents later, will delay your admission process.

For example if you miss one letter of recommendation, and send it 3 weeks later. Graduate school must first get that LOR to your file. Then they have to forward it to your department. They have to find your file and insert the LOR. If they misplace one LOR, then department will send message back to Graduate school for missing document, and they will inform you. So, in order to avoid all the confusion, send all the documents together.
