Email Template To Contact Current Students in Universities
By HSB
I was chatting with a student who was trying to find minimum GRE Score required for admission to M.S. in Material Science from University of Virginia. I searched around to see if the department have listed the minimum GRE score graduate admission to Material Science Masters program. But, thy haven’t specified. Here a way I uses to find the admission requirements.
This method is very simple and effective to find information about schools, department, funding, professors and so on.
Step 1
Search within Department website about Graduate School Admission Requirements. If No minimum GRE scores required is specified, then next step.
Example – Masters in Material Science and Engineering – Graduate Admission
Step 2
Look if Department has link to Students Profile.
Example – Students studying M.S. Material Science
Usually students profile links will be posted under People Section.
Step 3
Send email to them requesting help. Use the following email template
Dear Name,
I’m Raghu, planning to apply for M.S. in Material Science program at your school. I found your email id under students page in the University of Virginia’s department website. I would really appreciate if you help me by providing some information about Material Science program in your school. My profile is GRE Score – 1100, TOEFL 94, Academic percentage – 60%, 2 paper presentations. I’m in final year from Mumbai University.
I would like to know
- What is the minimum GRE Score required for admission?
- Do students get admission with funding, if not how does funding scenario look?
- What is the cost of living for students from India ( your country)
- How about part time jobs availability
So, the above email will help you get started. Some students will reply and you can ask more questions about internship, job search in later email. If you send them a lengthy email in your first email, it might turn them off to reply with lengthy response. So, make it short and easier on the person responding to you.
Change the email according to your academic details. I have to say this. Some students might just copy and paste the above email ( unless their name and profile are the same, which I doubt)
This method always works because they should have gone through the same stage when applying for college admisison. Use the same email template to as many students as possible to different universities.

- Q&A : How Do I Get into Top 20 Universities With GPA 3.0?

Hi,
I am finding happyschoolsblog very interesting and informative.
I am pursuing my M.Tech in CSE which will be completed in 2009.
I feel that it was not worth while studying M.Tech here in a mediocre university and I am now very much keen on getting a M S degree from USA.
1. What do you think about me getting an admission in US University despite of me having a Master degree from India?
2. I see in lots of University websites about MS in Computer Science? How do I find what are the other different majors the school offers ? Usually, I look in CS departments for different majors, but most of them have MS in CS ?
3. Do you think getting scholarship in India during M.Tech study and having one year internship experience, M.Tech average of 67% and with good GRE will help me get some sort of financial AID.
4. What aggregate do US Universities consider ? As in my degree certificate of B.E it mentions about class considering only 5th to 8th sem (which makes my % less compared to 8 sems average) or will they consider all 8 semester aggregate? or the degree % and class mentioned in degree certificate is final?
4. What shall I mention in Statement of Purpose?
Hello, I have my GPA around 3. If i were to choose 1 among the top 20 universities, what should be my probable GRE score. Im working in Tata Consultancy Services. Planning for Fall 2010, which would complete 2 years of my work experience. I want to specialize in Computer Science, and i have completed my BE in computer Science.
I wanted your suggestion about GMAT. For my profile what do you think would help me MAsters in Technology or in Managaement. Im even intrested in management, but i want to go into a feild which will give me a good lift up in my company.
