I was denied my F1 visa during my first interview at the New Delhi consulate.
I am a high school graduate of the class of 2012, and I was accepted into Foothill College (2 year transfer community college) in California.
The Visa Officer, during my interview, asked me two questions on the college.
F1 Visa for Community College
They were as follows:
1) How did you hear about foothill?
My answer) The college was mentioned during a college spotlight at school by my college counsellor.2) Why foothill?
My answer) The fees is comparatively more economical as compared to the other college I was accepted into(i.e Florida Inst. Of Tech.). Another reason is that foothill has an excellent transfer program to the University of California schools.3) Do you have anybody in the U.S?
My answer) No.
After this he denied my visa stating that he found me to be a non-credible student and issued me the 214b.
I didn’t have the chance to present any of my academic records or any other documents.
I am planning to reapply again very soon, and I need suggestions as to what I could do different/correct this time.
There isn’t a lot of changes I can make with my application itself, so I am depending solely on my interview itself. I look forward to your suggestions.
Thanks and regards

I was also rejected and i’m reapplying.
The last question was “how much do you get payed on your job?”
Can my University follow up with the embassy? do you know if that’s going to help or make things worst?
i have rejected thirce in sprring 2011 twice and ain fall august 2012 so i was feedup with this so i get into job now i am thinking to plan spring 2012 so any effect will be there because i belived visa is totally depend on our as per my experience so pls give me suggestion to me any effect will be there after one year again i am planing to go for us
I have received 5 years visa for Los Angeles Pierce college. How?
Lemme share…. I applied in January 2009 but got rejected. Reason. I could not convince the VO why I am selecting a community college over a university. They need a solid proof.
I applied again in July 2009 and I got my visa. I took the course circulum with me telling them what’s the main reason for community college and what exactly am gonna do. Same classes at university were at community college but at four times the price of community college. So, I explained the VO why should I pay more for same classes when I can cover them at much affordable price plus how flexible is a community college blah blah.
I got my visa and I am typing this sitting from LA. Its not the end. Try again. Good luck… BTW when u come here give your best because its something you dream for and you need to be honest about it. I did some mistakes but not I am on track again. I am transfering to UCLA and I would recommend everybody “stay honest to yourself” and “Be confident” good wishes from LA
Varun
Thanks Varun,
So did u take a printed copy of the course you would be taking at ur community college, and did the VO agree to have a look at them?? Also, which consulate did you have your interview done at??
No, I don’t think that would help either.
You should be talking about what is so great about the college in terms of educational excellence and how that relates to you.
Number of students getting admission into Berkely / UCLA / UC Davis don’t mean that its the right college for you.
VO is looking for you having done research to figure out which college and how it will help you achieve your career goals.
Thank you so much. I was really confused about what I should be telling the VO in terms of my choice for Foothill. Now I see what I should actually focus on. This was indeed really helpful.
Thank you once again.
I WAS DANIAL F1 VISA, WITHOUT INTERVIEW 3 WEEKS AGO. THE MAN TOLD ME THAT THE RESULT WILL BE THE SAME IF I REPLY, PLEASE WHAT DO YOU ADVICE, I AM IN OTHER COUNTRY SCHOOLING I APPLIED THERE NOT IN MY COUNTRY AND MY ADMISSION IS FOR FALL 2012, HE DID NOT EVEN LOOK AT MY DOCUMENT, THE INTERVIEW WAS LESS THAN 3 MINUTES, PLEASE ADVICE ME, THANKS
how is it possible without interview
pradeep, that is why am confused, can some body please help for comment and advice, fall 2012 is closing what can i do?
You showed obvious immigrant intent. Your answer to questions proved only 2 key things.
Economical (inexpensive) college
Transfer program.
If you are going to a college for these 2 reasons, you are an obvious immigrant. The decision of VO is correct and 100% rational. There was no reason to talk any further.
You shot yourself in the foot.
Hello
Thank you for the comment. I can see your point and I understand that my answers were the reason for my undoing. Do you think mentioning the fact that Foothill has a strong/highest number of international students among all other california community colleges, and also that is the leading community college in california, in its transfer of students to a 4 year university would help. I have posted some stats about the college transfer below:
-119 FHDA international students accepted to UC Berkeley and 167 to UCLA for Fall 2011, and 344 to UC Davis for Fall 2012!
I look forward to your reply.
Thanks
do backlogs affect in visa or further studies abroad??
