Here’s my visa conversation:

HOW MANY BACKLOGS?
ME: NONE SIRVO: WHY THIS UNIVERSITY?
ME: AM INTERESTED IN THE RESEARCH WORK BEIN CARRIED ON IN THIS UNIVERSITY N I SPOKE TO A PROF REGARDING MY INTERESTS. DATS DA REASON AM ATTENDIN THIS UNIVVO: WHATS UR PERCENTAGE?
ME: 8.6/10 IN MY MASTERS SIRVO: (LOOKING AT THE I-20) OH ! N UR BACHELOR’S?
ME: 72.8 SIRVO: DID U GIVE GRE SIR?
ME: YES SIRVO: GIMME UR SCORE CARD PLEASE
ME: SURE..(N GAVE IT TO HIM)VO: U HAVE VERY GOOD SCORE SIR
ME: THNQ SIR. (1270)VO: U DO RESEARCH TILL WHAT END?
ME: EXPLAINED IT IN MY JARGONVO: WHAT SUBJECTS DID U HAV IN UR MASTER’S?
ME: SAID A FEW OF ‘EMVO: OKAY SIR, AM ISSUING U 221G N U NEED TO RESPOND TO AN EMAIL SENT TO U.
ME: WILL DA PASSPORT STAY WID U ?VO: YES SIR.
ME: THANQ
VO: BYE BYE
221g for PhD
221g is not visa rejection. I read that over 70% of 221(g) are issued visa. I don’t remember the source of the data. But, the approval percentage is high.
I’m still trying to understand how someone with Masters degree can write in ALL CAPS.

Hi,
When i appeared for visa at Chennai consulate- even i was issued a 221g. Now it has been about a year since i am in the US doing my PhD. They will normally issue the visa. But it will take time- more than 4 weeks-in my case. So dont worry or panic- it is going to be alright.

Hey I am Priya. I have finished my BCOM in bangalore and I am looking forward for the Visa Interview. Please advice me the documents that I have to take other than my degree certificates, bank statements, I20 ,passport & my GRE, TOEFL score sheets.

priya u need to take all the documents what u mentioned above as u r from bcom so for that u need to take GMAT if u r planning for MBA or else if u r planning any master course in software then u need to have GRE and toefl/ielts

I don’t think one can really convince a VO based on a few minutes of interraction that he/she will return home, all you need is to be confident about your answer with respect to coming back home.
The harder you try to convince him the more you create doubts about your return. I hope this helps you.
