Any Hope of Getting Financial Aid?

By HSB

Rahul @ Average GRE Scores

Hi,I have a GRE score of 1070 ( V: 390, Q:680 ). But my GPA is 8.22/10 which is equivalent to 3.24/4. I want to do my M.S. in computer science in some fairly standard U.S. university. So can anyone please suggest me the universities where I can be admitted? Also is there any hope of me getting some financial aid if I can prepare my letter of recommendation and SOP well and do a few certifications as well in different software programming languages as well?

Financial Aid

Every student assumes, there is some University in US that will give Financial Aid with admission irrespective of your score. If you have such thoughts, then you are wrong.

Universities will NOT  give Financial Aid to all the students. You will need to have exceptional academic profile compared to other students applying for the program.

If someone with GRE Score 1400 applies to same university, you are not going to get Financial Aid. You have much better chances to get aid after you come to US and start working with a professor in research.

By the way you cannot convert your CGPA of 8.22 to GPA, there is no GPA Converter formula for that. 1070 is good GRE Score, but admission with scholarship is tough, unless you have very good projects and good recommendation letter. Even then, you have less than 10% chances to get financial aid.

    I graduated from Kerala University in 2009 with a CGPA of 7.55 with 88% at 10 th grade(cbse) and 87%- 12th grade(cbse)
and havnt written the GRE yet. I plan to fund my education through scholarships ie. financial assistance.
I completed my final year project at the ISRO and i hope that would fetch me some credit as far obtaining scholarships is concerned and the will be ready to provide a recommendation letter for the work completed under them.
I would like to know the minimum GRE & TOEFL target scores i should have in mind in order to attain a full scholarship. Also i would like to know whether universities would consider my current GRE score if i were to take up research under a professor and apply after a couple of years to boost my chances of admission into a good university with funding.
    Thanking you,
    Awaiting ur reply,

I graduated from Lamar University and it is one of the small but good universities that you might consider. Other than that you might consider applying to Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University-Kingsville (both are in TX and they are smaller than Lamar), University of Texas at Arlington or University of Houston at Clear Lake, TX. These are all the universities listed above considerably good for engineering. I have handful of friends graduated from these schools and are doing very nice jobs!

    Good Luck
    Sri
