GPA Conversion

in College Admission

Students applying to U.S. Universities try GPA Conversion formulas. In the graduate school application, GPA will be on entry in the form that has to be filled. Students from India, China usually try to convert the percentage score to GPA using some GPA conversion formulas.

I have written 3 articles about GPA Conversion and still many students post comments like

“I want to convert my percentage to GPA..its urgent ..plz reply..”

” Can someone help me to convert my scores to GPA..”

” Which gpa formula to use…”

GPA Conversion

I like to highlight again – You cannot convert percentage or CGPA scores to GPA Scores. Its completely different system of grading. I think most students assume, there is a formula like Celsius to Fahrenheit for GPA Conversion. But, there is no such GPA Converter formula.

Main reason many student try to for GPA conversion is due to simple fact. In U.S. college application, they are asked to fill out GPA. So, students assume, they have to convert percentage to GPA scores. But, schools in U.S. know about Indian education system. So, its always better to just write your percentage score. Don’t spend too much time trying to figure our the gpa conversion formulas and other means of converting to GPA.

Universities have their own mechanics to evaluate the percentage scores. I would suggest, you spend time in preparing good SOP and Recommendation letter, than wasting time figuring out the GPA Conversion.

One funny this is, even after reading 2-3 articles, I have seen comment to the article where I clearly explain about GPA Conversion is not possible, student write comment …” I read your GPA Conversion, but how do I convert my 78% to GPA”.

When I see such comments, I just think…oh what a dumb..and dumber…well thats the nature of the world.

my bachelor degree trend is like 80,76,71 and 66 in terms of percentage. i got eventually 6.96 cpi. on college transcrips it is 3.25 gpa. i consulted some online gpa converters and they have a method in which you assign A=4, B=3,C=2, D=1. then multiply the subject credits with respective grade number and do likewise for all the subjects then add it up and divide the no. by total no. of credits. e.g.
sub=optoelectronic
credits=5
grade=B
so it is now = 5*3=15. thus for five similar subjects it would be 15+15+15+15+15=75. now 75/(5*5)=3 gpa.

when i use this formulae it gives me 2.5 gpa. plz help. i scored pretty low in my final year and pretty better in my first 2 years. will this inconsistency have an adverse effect.?

plz if you ans. this question mail it to me as well as i tend to forget the section where i asked the que.

Hi,

I understand we just need to fill our CGPA of percentage in the application form. I got a little doubt. My college have a unique credit system. It will allocate a Grade (O-Outstanding,S-,A,B,C,F-Fail) for a particular range of score in the exams which i do not remember now. And they will allocate a Credit for a subject based on its toughness. So do i need to mention about this to the colleges i apply, or do i need to worry about this?

Thanks.
