Will the condition of the slums, brought into limelight by the movie “Slumdog Millionaire”, fade from public memory soon or is the movie the turning point?
Wake up to reality
The criticism that the movie has received because of the portrayal of the slums in India indicates how reluctant we are to face reality. What is wrong in showing what is actually happening in the society? In fact, the movie is capable of doing goods to the development of the slums, if not to a drastic extent, at least on a minuscule scale.
Some of us would have been even oblivious to the conditions of the slums before watching the movie. And those who were aware of the existence of such heart-wrenching realities would have woken up to the fact that they have been doing nothing about it. It is possible that some of these people may adopt the slum kids or at least sponsor their education after watching the movie. And even the government may start doing something for these people now that there is suddenly too much media attention and focus on the slums.
There has been some criticism that the movie has done damaged the image of India. Is image more important than the living conditions of a fellow citizen? If one really cares about the image of our country let him do something to get rid of such social conditions and contribute to society rather than criticise a movie that is capable of bringing a change. And coming to the big question of how in the real world their living standards can be improved. The private educational institutes can first take up the responsibility of educating at least a few slum kids each year free of cost.
Some of us can sponsor their food at least for a few days in a year to make sure that they don’t go to bed starving. But most important, it is the government that can save these children from the exploitation of the heartless goondas and criminals. It has to lay down stringent laws to deal with such perpetrators of laws. It also has to provide better houses for these people from the taxes that the common man is paying. Only the combined efforts of the fellow citizens and a responsible government can bring light to the dark future of these unfortunate slum kids.

this essay topic won’t appear in the GRE. life is short and time is precious – just go directly to the real pool of questions and practice those.
as far as your matter is concern your work is appreciable but the thing is the length is short. try to make it slightly more in length. there are some flaws but that is too obvious. concentrate on the flaws.. all the best
