What is GRE?
Prospective graduate and business school students can take GRE. test. Schools require GRE test to evaluate applicants for Graduate school admission. GRE General Test provides a common measure for comparing candidates’ qualifications.

I have read all you posts related to GRE and GRE scores. I am going to take GRE in first week of September 2010. My Friend John has taken the test already and has scored 1360 [Quants:790 + Verbal:570], but has scored only 2 in analytical writing section. Someone has said that scoring less than 3.0/6.0 means "FAIL" and he is bit worried about taking the test again. Is that so, i have tried searching this in google and not able to find any information. Kindly help us.

I have just completed my BE in Electronics & Communication from a reputed university with an aggregate of exactly 60.02%. Am preparing for the GRE since my 6th semester and i have appeared once. I got a score of 860 (Q-570; V-290). At that time all my seniors told me to give another chance with some coaching from an institute. Now i have joined for coaching and the preparation is going on well.
But few people tell me that even you get a very good score, there are few chances of not getting the VISA, like they may Visa Officer may cancel my application though i get admit from an university.
My query is with this academic result, how much would you suggest me to score in GRE or what would be an ideal score in GRE and TOEFL also for a decent university (not top ranking) with some scholarship. I didn't present any papers or research works.But am confident of getting very good "LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION" and "SOP".

I just got over with my 3rd year of engineering in electrical and electronics with a average score of 3.12.Now i am in fourth year and i plan to do my MS in Automotive Engineering as soon as i get over with my fourth year. I have been involved in a Research and Development program in my college which deals in making for formula style car since last three years. I even participated in Two International event and even headed the team as the event captain.
I am really concerned about the of the fact that being electrical background i really dont know which all can universities accept me in Automotive Engineering, and if they will then when should i give my gre.

Hello guys, i m a regular reader of ur blog and u guys r dng gr8 job …… I completed my Btech this april … I wrote my first gre exam on march this year got score of 1090(verbal 360 quant 730) AWA 3.5 not satisfied with it wrote second time .. Gave the test yesterday got 1460(verbal 670 quant 790) . . . I am nt frm NIIT'S , bits or IIT …. Got Cgpa 9.03 within top 5% of cls , no research papers…just done Btech project based on IEEE paper in networking , not much extra curricular activities to put to resume … Is there any chance i can get to top20 colgs for this spring,… I read in many websites we cant get to top colgs based on scores , but it is my ambition to do MS in gud colg . study words and do loads of practice …study the words daily .. never miss even one day ……Go for perfection success will follow you,…i studied barrons words and did practice ..the books i studied are barrons , NOVA GRE PREP COURSE(quant)…..Softwares used are kaplan,powerprep .thats it..study the words and practice simultaneously .initially you may score less but that makes you get habituated to the verbal questions

I gave my GRE exam recently and secured 1100(Quant 790, Verbal 310). I did my graduation from BITS Pilani Goa Campus with good CGPA and i've 2 years professional experience. Assuming I'll get a good score in toefl around 100. Is it possible to get an admission in MS Computer Science? If anyone knows how the evaluation happens in various universities, please provide me those links/ info.
Any guesses in which universities i can get into would be helpful.

I would like to know some details for my sister who is planning to do MS in US .
She applied for 2 universities and she got her I-20 for those universities.
She had her BTECH accademic 63.4% , she failed in 1st year 2 semister and later she cleared it and now after getting I-20 for universities she got failed in 4th-2 semister .
She was told by her college examination branch mam that there will chance of eliminating 2 subjects which got least marks or failed, but our doubt is any problem in US university if they see the 4th year 2 semister marks memo as failed in 1 subject and with zero cerdit in 4th year 2 semister. Will the university accept her admission and allow to study in the college without any problem.
Please give reply to me soon , my sister is trying to go for visa dates and this is the peak moment please give me the reply soon.

i suggest you to at least aim for composite(q+v) 1000 score, i suggest you to work hard for one month and i', sure you will get the outcome the best time for writing g.r.e. and t.o.e.f.l. is end of July or early august(for Jan 2011) spring session.

my doubts are:
1 supposing if i got 1000-1100 in gre wil i get admitted in average univ
2 is TOEFL is must atleast for average univ
3 dealine for univ applications to avail fee weavers….

I had given G.r.e. on 23-march-2010 and scored (700q+520v+2.5a.w.a.), i submitted online application to Univ of Central Florida, along with that i had filed a Pre application. in Industrial Eng. (MS) – System Eng. & Management Track program(spring 2011). The U.C.F. had disapproved my application because they told me via mail that my Credentials aren't competitive, compared with the other applicants for the same program, now I did my B.tech in mechanical engineering from Uttar Pradesh Technical University with 59.4 % moreover due to my laid back attitude i completed my B.tech in 5 years.other then these three factors(a. getting my B.tech Degree from Uttar Pradesh Technical University, b.scoring less then Ist division and c. completing my B.tech in 5 Years ) what are the credentials on which i can improve upon because in UCF Reply was this ' In the future, if your credentials improve, we encourage you to submit another pre-application at that time ' i have told these guys that i have completed my B.tech so how on earth i could improve my credentials Other than improving G.R.E. score.HSB one more thing tell me frankly do i have a chance of getting admit from some where, if there are none please tell me and i will start to focus on something(like preparing for G.A.T.E., M.A.T.) because spending on application fees(30$ -70$) and sending a Rs. 487 speed post is quiet expensive. (i had send my pre application on June 16 and application deadline is July 1 for spring 2011).

Did you apply for just one school? You have to apply for Spring 2011.

I want to know if universities would consider only the new gre exam for fall 2012, and if there would be any disadvantage in applying with the old gre (pattern) scores, actually when is the pattern changing? and also i want to know if it is the right time to plan for fall 2011?
