H1B 2010 – Regular Processing Receipt Numbers

by HSB on April 24, 2009

in H1B Visa

Most of the readers following H1B Visa 2010 related updates her at HSB have applied for H1B approval through Regular Processing ( or Normal processing). Most of their comments right now is to find when will they get their receipt numbers. Here is the email from one of the reader

H1B Regular Processing Receipt Number

I am going crazy waiting for my receipt. Do you know if receipts for normal processing are all sent out already? I am trying to check all comments but its hard as people comment on more than one post. I will be thankful if you could tell me something in this regard. Thank You!

There are many other comments asking if USCIS is issuing receipt number only for Regular processing applications applied in Masters Cap Quota. If you have the receipt number, then it will be much easier to check the status oh H-1B Visa petition using USCIS case status online. You can also sign up for automatic updates, so when your H1B Petition status get updated, it will send you automatic email.

Here are some of comments from readers who applied through regular H1B processing and received receipt numbers

Ashwin on April 23/2009

I got my receipt number yesterday…The status says case received and pending…Any idea how long from this stage for regular processing.  Thanks in advance

K on April 23/2009

I got the receipt notice from VCS 3 days ago. I applied through regular processing and under advanced degree cap.

Viv on April 23/2009

i applied for the h-1b visa using regular processing and got my recipt number a few days ago. got my notice of approval of H-1B visa yesterday. so i saved one thousand dollars. therefore, using the premium processing was just like throwing away $1000. good luck to everyone else in getting approved.

Varun on April 22/2009

I got receipt number on 18 th april by regular processing

Sarika on April 22/2009

Hi, I have received my receipt today (Masters, regular processing, VSC) but not approved yet.
I am working for Nortel networks and my manager gave me a shock that I would be laid off next week. Can I transfer my H1B to any other company with the receipt number. What are the chances that my transfer would be approved if I apply through a consultancy?? Can any please let me know how this would work or any advice..

So, applicants are receiving receipts numbers for H1B Visa petitions applied through regular processing. If you haven’t received your receipt number, keep following others comments, that will give an idea of whats going on with others.  There is no 15 day limit like premium processing for regular H1B processing. It can take upto 6 months to get approval. Paying additional $1000 definitely has its advantage. Usually it will take 3 months to get H1B Approval.

Hello everyone,

I have submitted by H-1B related docs to my employer on 07-AUG-2009. Read from available net sources that USCIS will stop accepting petitions by 01-oct-2009 and will start processing the applied petitions. When I enquired my employer for a tentative date to understand when will I get my receipt number and when will I know my via approval status, they asked me to wait for 90 days to know the answers for all the above queries.

Is there anyone out there to help me out in getting know a tentative date or how long will be take to know the status. I thought that I would be able to know my visa status after 01-oct-2009. Will my application also be picked with other guys who submitted their document before AUG-2009?

Hi,

I have same experience. If you do not have receipt yet means your H1B is not filed yet. If your H1B was filed you will get Notice of Action with status “B” – Pending and you cantrack throug your status using USCIS website. Please ask your concern person to give your receipt and “Notice Of Action” copy. Many people dont file H1B if they do not have appropriate matching job for you as per USCIS rule. You will have still time to wait for another 3 weeks till 1st Oct. Otherwise your H1B is not files damm sure.

can i apply for H2b extension while my H1b on proces? because i do not want to loose the chance for either one. right now im on h2b, seeking extension for next season, in the mean time i filed my H1b as well.

i got the H1b receipt already and RFE after that (request for Evidence) for additional evidence. it was minor RFE regarding TARP. My employer sent the reply of TARP that they dont have any funding from the govt. vailout money. now not sure USCIS gonna approve my H1b or not, i hope they do because they did not ask for anything else, seems like everything is correct. my H1 start day is Oct 1st 2009.

i have H2b in hand till Oct 31st. To go further more after Oct 31 to May 2010 or so extension process started already and need to file by June. although H2b start day is after H1b start day, anytime in NOV or DEC.

what should i do now? my H1b process is done, got receipt and waiting for final result by anytime. H2b extension needed what if i dont get H1b approval. i do not want to be illegal or leave the country right now. is there any chance to get canceled my H1b if i apply for H2b right now while H1b on process?

Note: i filed my H1b as a transfer of status from H2b to H1b.

Please help me…

Hi there,

I got my receipt number on 8th May 09 through my employer ( Regular processing, non-masters Quota). Till yesterday my case status was CASE RECEIVED & PENDING. But today I got an update from USCIS that my case status changed to REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL EVIDENCE SENT. I spoke to my employer regarding this and he says that the attorney will receive a hardcopy of the requested information from USCIS. Basically he is unable to comment on what kind of additional information that the USCIS is looking for. He just asked me to wait for a week. Once they get the hardcopy and incase they need any further information from my end then they will get back to me.

Now Iam worried about this. Are there anyone who are sailing in the same boat? What are my chances of getting an approved H1B visa?

Thanks,
Sandhya.

Hi,
I’m in a strange situation.
I’m currently working on my post completition OPT(expires on Oct-2009) in a very good and established company. My employer filed H-1B for me under bachelors degree, regular processing. But the main problem is, i havn’t graduated till now, as my masters’s thesis is undone. So, now whether there will be any problem with my H-1B. My employer has no problem with the degree.
I’m worried, whether any querrys from USCIS will be there regarding my master’s degree.

Kindly somebody reply me.
Thanks.

The online case status is very inaccurate. Don’t count on it.
My case was approved two weeks back at CSC (premium processing)and still the online section says “case received and pending.” waiting to get it in the mail seems to be the best option.

Maybe you input the wrong way, It begins with three letters such as (EAC, WAC, LIN, or SRC). Dashes (“-”) should be omitted when entering a receipt number. Please try again, otherwise It is wrong number, you should check with your employer or lawyer.

Hi to all!

My representative emailed me last May 12, 2009 about my notice receipt. She just gave me the number WACxxxxxxxxx and when I checked it online, my status is “Case Received and Pending”. But she did not send me my notice receipt. How will I know if this number really corresponds to my application? I’ve got a question to those who have received their notice receipt, is your name written on it? Please answer my query, please. Thanks so much.

I am also on the same boat.

Getting receipt means the application is accepted. Processing takes about 2 months after that, they may send RFE in they need further evidence or information.

Finally they would then send the notice of approval or rejection.

Thanks!

58 Punit May 10, 2009 at 10:23 AM

I guess ATLEAST a month. My Receipt was dated 24th April, So I am hoping to get the result by 25th May. Remember, only 2 Service Centers process NEW H1B cases (VSC & CSC). And they have already received 65000 applications (45000 in General Quota and 20000 in Masters Degree quota). Even if they process 1000 applications each day (though really not possible) it will take them 65 days to clear all applications. Also, they are processing applications alphabetically (1st alphabet of last name) for Non-PP applicants. So if your 2nd name appear somewhat higher on the list your case will be processed sooner than later. So Wait, Relax & hope for the best.

I will make this as a common question.

Does the receipt # mentioning the current state of application remain the same after the original I-797 (with approval notice) is sent out later in september 2009?

Reply

70 Selam May 4, 2009 at 2:38 PM

Hey All,
I called USCIS and they gave me my Recipt# on the phone. The only thing is my employer had to talk to them for a minute or so and give his permission. They said that they mailed me the Recipt# on Thursday April 30 but I still haven’t got it.(Case is received and pending, Bachelor, Regular, VSC)

Reply

71 Shil May 4, 2009 at 3:03 PM

Hey Salem,

Did u directly call USCIS? VSC center? What did u say to them? I had applied under regular processing – non masters at Vermont center but I havent yet got any receipt. I’m worried so just wanted you to give some directions. Do u think they are processing alphabetically?

Reply

72 Selam May 4, 2009 at 3:37 PM

I called 1-800-375-5283 and chose 1(for english), then 2(for check status of Application), then 3(for lost recipt#). It will take to a customer service. Tell them you applied H1-B and you haven’t got Recipt# yet. They will ask when you applied (it needs to be more than 30 days) and which service center. Then they will transfer you to some other line and the other person will ask you your name and some of the same question. Then they will tell you they can only give info to the employer. Tell them to wait and give your phone to your employer( or a representative of the company). They will ask your employer thier name, Company name, address and federal tax ID #(same thing as Federal Employer ID # on your I-129 form). After that you can take the phone from your employer and you can ask for the Recipt# if you application is already in the system they will give it to you.

I want to know that is it possible that USCIS has issued the Receipt Number but NOT yet cashed the cheques ? I have heard that Receipt Numbers are only issued (by USCIS) after your cheque is cashed. My attorney told me that he has received the Receipt Number for my application and employer told me that the cheques are not yet cashed. I am totally confused ?

Thanks.

Hello All,

Regular Undergrad Quota

Date Received: April 7th
Receipt Date: April 23rd

Waiting for approval.

I know for sure that they are sending receipt for undergrad. regular by alphabetical order but last name alphabetical. Three of us from our company applied, I figured out from the order we receive the receipt.

Good luck to you all!

I hope I receive my receipt notice very soon. I’m also worried. My friends received theirs already. I talked with my employer, and they haven’t received anything fom USCIS yet. I was filed April 1, non-PP, regular quota.

I wish the best for all of us waiting!

I got my receipt # today, but the website doesn’t seem to recognize it yet. Is this normal? Does it take a few days or more until I can check the status online?

Reply

119 Punit May 3, 2009 at 2:54 AM

No, its not normal, Make sure with your Attorney, that he sent you the correct receipt number. Initially, my attorney sent me wrong receipt number, when I checked the status online it said “Application Type: I-131, Application for Re-Entry received and pending” but my application was not a Re-Entry visa, it was a work visa (H-1B) application. I called my attorney for clarification and he sent me another number. This time it showed correct status.
“Application Type: I-129, Application for Non-Immigrant Work Visa received and pending”

120 babu April 30, 2009 at 10:11 PM

My employer said, he filled my h1b visa application on April/01/09 under regular processing with advanced degree. Till now have not received receipt number. Is it normal for such delay.

If Possible, Request your Lawyer/Employer to send you a scanned copy of the receipt USCIS sent to them. If you check the status online, you won’t see your name or employers name.

To HSB,

Could you please add a new topic about processes after RFE. So guys who have questions and/or experience share with each other.
Please see above questions.

As this is not correct place(different topic) to write about processes after RFE.

Hi,

I got my receipt around 1 week ago, and yesterday the website shows up new updating which is “Request for Additional Evidence Sent”. I wonder do they request additional evidences from me or company side and how high is the percentage that I will get rejected because of this Request for Additional Evidence?

thank you

See RFE is not an issue as long as you provide legit supporting evidence. You don’t have to worry if you case is straight forward and your company has good records.

I have applied H1B under regular processing.. have not received my receipt number.. I hear many people have git theirs.. my consultant says they still havent’t received receipt number for any of the H1Bs they have filled.. its something which is bit hard me to digest… I have no option but to wait.. but is there some date after which I should think that i am not going to receive a receipt number and should forget about H1B ???

164 Shil April 25, 2009 at 8:35 AM

Ask your consultant about how they had sent ur application. They must have sent it thru Fedex.. It must be having some tracking number. You can check when ur application got delivered to USCIS by entering the tracking number online.

I spoke to my attorny yesterday and she said they expect to get a receipt no in about two to three weeks. I applied through regular processing non-masters.
My question is once they have sent out receipts to all the people that applied under premium processing, do they then do the Master Degree H1B receipts and then after non-masters?

This website is really full of information and I thank everyone for their comments. It really helps me keep up to date with the H1B information.
