I think that the millions of American workers on temporary working visas all around the world should be immediately ordered home in order to fill the now open HIB jobs! That would be well over 65,000 openings right? That will go a long way to fixing this recession. I think that only Americans should be even allowed to
"Buy American" ... all those non-Americans around the world buying American products should stop immediately -- American products should be sold only in America and only Americans who make their money in America should be allowed to buy them. Let's have only Americans living and working in America and only America can have Americans ... think of the money to be saved as there will be no need for a border at all! No Americans out, No Americans in ... tourism would be so much easier as with only Americans working in America and only Americans allowed to buy American ... my god ...we could still have war of course but only CIvil Wars ... let's even have an American only Heaven ...

How can the US economy be worst off? The H1b visa a salavary visa, just because the indian dont want to live in india or go back there, they are willing to work for penuts, have you seen the contract rates or salaries, they are down by 40% in IT alone and this is because the ppl on h1b visa are willing to work at a much cheaper rate than the US citizen or GC holders. Majority of H1b visa holders are here without family so they all live in shared accomodation and have no expenses, maybe 500-1000 a month, they done contribute to the economy and send all their money back home. This puts undue pressure on the local population as they have to being their standard of living down to compete with h1b visa workers.

Bringing more h1b visa workers will have a long term -ive imapact on US labour market and US ability to be innovative, if there are no high paying jobs in IT and engineering then student will not take up these majors and in return there will be even fewer graduate in engineering and it and thus drive less ppl avalaible with skills to innovate. If we want the us to continue as the leader in innovation we need to make sure the effort are equally rewarded.

Nicholas,
I agree that the immigration of US is messed up however H1B visas are required otherwise the amercian economy could have been worse of what it is right now.

Canada,EU and Australia are worst off than USA.Because there is more racism and uncertainity there. If all indian workers in india stop working for the ITcompanies in India america would come to a stand still then they will issue 1 million H1 visas every year knowing the value of indian IT professionals. Till that time americans will abuse those on H1 and indian companies will abuse those working here India. It is time all the IT professionals wake up and fight the injustice being meted out to them by the American Companies ,Indian companies and US govt.

The US immigration system for highly skilled immigrants is severely messed up. If you hold an advanced degree (a MSc or a PhD), even if from a US university, you should seriously look into opportunities in other countries. With US, you will be facing years of uncertainty, stress, and reduced quality of life due to the rigid immigration laws. There will also be the the ever-present possibility that you might be forced to permanently leave the country on a short notice. Do you think starting a family, making friends, and building yourself a new life in US is a good idea under such conditions? On top of that, US public opinion has somewhat shifted recently, and it is now even less favorable to letting highly skilled foreigners enter the US work force. The unskilled illegal immigration plays an important role in blocking legal highly skilled immigration. It is a big interconnected conundrum that US will have a very hard time resolving - and it doesn't appear any solutions are coming any time soon. You might be better off just staying away from all of this. If you have the skills, employers in other countries (Canada, EU, etc.) will recognize them. Many of these employers can offer a quality of life comparable to the one in US - give it a shot.
