VK Asks About possibility of getting Job after Masters Degree without Work Experience

I am a 3rd year BE ECE student planning to do MS in US by september 2011.I am without any work experience. Is it possible to get a job after completing MS in 2013 without any job experience only with OPT?Is it possible to do part time job in F1 visa?

Remember few things with respect to job search in America

  • Companies don’t come to Campus for Interviews ( Majority of them)
  • There will be career fairs, but not as frequently as Walk-In interviews in India
  • You have to go looking for jobs.
  • Resume format used in India will NOT work in US.

Entry Level Job Search

It’s good to see a third year student thinking of OPT and Job Opportunities in US after completing Graduate School.

Is it possible to get a job after completing MS in 2013 without any job experience only with OPT?

Yes, you can find a Job after completing your Masters Degree without work experience, but due to recession many people have lost jobs. Number of jobs that will be available in 2013 cannot be predicted now, but if you plan and prepare yourself from day ONE you land in America, you can get a job in no time.

To get job as an Entry level student, you will need work as an intern while studying Masters degree for 1 or 2 semesters. Process of applying to internship is same as applying for full time jobs.

Students who have experience in applying for Internship, have an edge during job search. If you get an internship position, you have very good advantage over students who are applying without Internship experience. You will get work experience and chances of getting full time job in same company is also highly likely.

It takes time to learn the job search skills. You have to go looking for jobs, not the other way around.

Learn how to use build your professional network using Facebook, Twitter (Follow Happy Schools Blog on Twitter) and LinkedIn ( Top 8 Job Search Methods). Once you have built a good network, you can utilize that to find a job or internship.

Part Time Job in F1 Visa

Is it possible to do part time job in F1 visa?

International students in F1 visa are allowed to work 20 hours per week On Campus jobs. You can get to work within University’s Library, book store, computer labs, cafe, athletic centers, stadiums, conference halls, …Part time jobs will pay around $7 to $0 per hour.

Halo
please respond to this HSB.
I have posted this question once before.
I have applied for the fall 2010 admissions for MS mechanical in the US.
my problem is i passed out my BE in 2008 and worked only for 5 months and that too in a software company (infosys) from november 2008 to april 2009.
which effectively means i was almost jobless for 2 years after the BE.
will this gap in education affect my career when i pass out my MS in 2012?

@Aby and @HSB
will a person like aby face problems getting admission in a good US university in spite of his 2 year gap.?
will he face tough visa interview?
how can a person like him justify the situation in the interview?

Hi,

I am BE Electronics 2008 pass out from Mumbai university.
My academics are very low 10 th 64 %, Diploma 72.08 % and B.E 52.08 % aggregate. I was working in LIONBRIDGE technologies as technical support for seven months,I am also ORACLE & IBM Tivoli certified I am going to give my GRE in month of FEB and I am aiming for Fall 2010 intake.

I am aiming for high GRE score i want to ask how much worth is to do MIS or MS from moderately repudiated universities like

Lamar University.
New York Institute of Technology.
SUNY Institute of Technology.
Arkansas Tech University, AR.
California State University, Fullerton, CA.
San Francisco State University, CA.

Considering job prospects in future, because i don’t have any idea how good are these universities in terms of future prospect.

What is the difference between Internship and OPT?Which is better for a job opportunity? Is it wise to undergo internship in India and join MS during Spring?Does it make any difference if we join MS during Spring or fall?

In fact, you can work on Internship when you are in CPT. OPT is what you get when you get out of school. It does not make much difference joining either Spring or Fall. Email me [ EMAIL ID REMOVED - ADMIN ] need help.
