Average IELTS Scores Required for Admission to Universities

About 23% of students applying for college admission to United States are taking IELTS Exam from India. IELTS still remains popular exam among test takers to UK and Australian Universities.

What is the average IELTS Score and minimum IELTS Scores required to get admission in U.S. Universities?

Last week  we listed 2 sets of universities

After looking at various universities to collect the above list, I came to following conclusion

  1. Graduate School
    • Having Average IELTS Score of 6.0 is better for Graduate School
    • 5.5 will get you conditional admission
  2. Minimum IELTS Score of 5.0 is required for Under-Graduate programs

You have very good chance to get unconditional admission if IELTS Band Score is above 6.0 (6.5+).  You are qualified to get financial aid or scholarship only if your admission status is unconditional. If you get conditional admission, then you may have to take ESL classes or re-take IELTS and get score above 6.0.

Most of the universities in UK, Australia, New Zealana, Unites states for Graduate School admission require IELTS Average band score to be on 6.0 to 6.5. Top programs requires atleast 7.5 score.

IELTS (TRF) scores are valid for 2 years and if you don’t get required score to get admission, you can always retake the exam.

    I am a B.B.A graduate, have 1 year of marketing work experiences and now working with a company too as marketing representative.My IELTS band score is 5.5 . PLZ…help me to find a Post secondary Diploma program,Diploma course or master’s in marketing (CANADA & AUSTRALIA)..Please suggest me….

    Hi,I got an overall band of 7 and L-8, R-5.5, S-7, W-6.5. Am i eligible for studying in Canada. Will they consider individual module which i have for Reading of only 5.5, or is it the overall score considered.Please let me know, so that i can plan to retake the exam asap.

      Hi Mehreen, IELTS score requirement is usually same for all programmes. In most cases it is 6.5 with no band score less than 6.0. Thus you meet this requisite and can go ahead with admissions process.

      Most of the international Universities ask for an IELTS score of 6.5 and above. It would be better to retake the test. Check for the University specific requirements. You may get a conditional admission with current scores.

    Hi i have got a band score 6.0(lis 7.0,speaking 4.5,reading 6.0,writing5.5) so this is sufficient for ms(cs) in usa please tell me its urgent……….

    I have got a band score of 5.5 in IELTS: 5.5 (Writing and apeaking), 5 (Reading ) and 6 (Listening). So is this suffient for my admission for masters in Computer science in Australia??Im planning for fall 2012 intake…plz give me the university list which accept ielts 5.5

    Hi,I had an overall score of .in IELTS,5.5 in . and i am planing for the spring admission 2013 Can I get admission for graduate in business (MBA) study any where in and around Texas or Richmond (Virginia ) i have work experience of 11 yrs is that considerable? if it is Then please provide me the university’s list . so i can apply as early

    Hello,

    I want to study in a collage in CANADA or Australia. My ielts score is 5 bands overall.
    But I got 4 bands in speaking and reading, and 5.5 bands in writing and speaking.
    Please let me know, if you can apply for in a collage.

    I got overall 6 in IELTS, i want to apply for MSc management program in Imperial Collage London. Minimum requirement is 7.0 band. Plz tell me is there any possible way to get in that program. I dont want to repeat IElTs.

    I have scored of 6 bands in IELTS(Listening-6.5,Reading-6,Writing-6,Speaking-6)OVERALL-6bands. Is this score accepted in US universities for my Masters in ComputerScience. Iam planning for 2013 jan intake..!! Kindly reply me of what universities accept my score.

      In US you need GRE score too. your IELTS band is average score.with this score you can mostly apply for New Zealand for good Diploma programs. Let me know if you need any help
