Recession in US is certainly affecting lot of workers, but what is the impact on students funding and financial aid? Specifically, what will be the impact on International students studying in US. Couple of students have posted this comment and most of the students planning to attend school in Fall 2009 semester will have similar questions.

Financial Aid to International Students

If you look at comments students write here at HSB, most of them by default assume the fact that whatever maybe their academic profile. For instance one’s GRE Score will be 900 ( of 1600) and they would like to get a list of schools that give admission to GRE Score of 900 with scholarship.

Above question will have different flavors

  • My TOEFL Score is 75, I want list of schools that give admission with full scholarship.
  • I have 2 backlogs, but I cleared them in next semester. I have 65% till 7th semester, I want universities that give full scholarship

Students with academic profile better than above questions might have similar question. But, you will have to read one of the previous article you cannot get financial aid to understand that not everyone will get financial aid. There is wrong impression, that is very popular among most of the students applying to US Schools. 60% or so will not get Financial Aid.

There will be situations where, you will have to pay out of state tuition fees for entire duration of Masters degree. PhD degree students usually get some form of aid within one or two semesters. You have to be prepared to face the worst case scenario. Assuming that everyone will get aid after coming US is totally wrong. But, that shouldn’t prevent you from going to US for higher education.

Rest of this article and answer to the question – Do students get funding due to economy recession US will be in next article.
