Question from Meesha

I have my GRE on 10th DEC 2009, I want to apply for doctorate in chemistry. What is the minimum score that I should score. And if I start sending my score immediately ,when can i get admission in Jan 2010 or July 2010

Admission – Jan 2010 or August 2010

If you are going to take GRE in Dec, 2009 its highly unlikely to get admission for Spring 2010 Semester ( January, 2010). Universities will have International students deadlines for January (Spring) 2010 from August to October.

Even if you forward GRE Exam scores to universities right after GRE Exam, it’s impossible to get admission for Spring Semester.

You will have enough time to apply for Fall 2010 ( August/September) Semester for PhD in Chemistry. Keep in mind that admission to PhD is not same as Maters degree. It’s good idea to start talking to Professors in Chemistry in different Universities. You can select Universities based on Professors response and interest in your candidacy.

Minimum GRE Required – You have to score above 1200 to be considered for Admission to PhD in Chemistry in good universities.

Hi, My GRE is on 19 November and i am not well prepared for the test. I am unsure if i could make it up for Fall ’10. Is it wise to opt for spring ’11? Can you please help me to know if there are chances of me getting a call from an university if is start my application procedure in Jan?

Hi Megha,

My situation is similar to yours. Had taken gre on 28th of oct and I just missed to cross 1100. I wanno give a try again sometime this November. Please let me know if u get any guidelines from anyone about chances of university Fall’10 admission calls given that gre is written in November’09.

I would not recommend you to go for spring as it has its own set of drawbacks. Please mail if you find anything

As far the blogs are concerned there seems to be very little difference between the two semesters- fall and spring. I am deliberating on spring too.
