How to Use Facebook for Job Search

Majority of HSB visitors have account in one or more of of the following social media sites including Orkut, Facebook, Twitter, Hi5, LinkedIn,… But, very few actually use them for Job Search or know how to use them for job search.

In this article you will learn how to use Facebook (350 Million Users ) for job search. You have to remember that, job search using Facebook is not a pill that will given instant relief. If you are going to graduate in May, don’t expect to get results by using Facebook from May or June. You have to stay using the steps listed below atlest 1 year before that.

Building Professional network is time consuming and ongoing process. Lets get started.

Job Search Using Facebook

Just follow the steps below to build your professional network using facebook and use the network for job search

  1. Create a Facebook Account ( If you are not interested to create an account, stop reading this)
  2. Update your profile with good/decent photo.
  3. Search for a Groups in your area of Job Search.
  4. Join those Groups.
  5. Participiate in the Group Discussion (Create a Wall Post, reply to existing thread,..)
  6. Basically, announce your presence.
  7. Add people who take part in your discussion.
  8. Start talking to them and build a relationship.
  9. Go back to Step 3 and start all over again with different group.

Above 8 steps sounds very simple, and get you to build a professional network. If you have good network, then finding a jobs is very easy. All, ou have to do is ask for any available jobs to your network of friends, when you start your job search.

Remember that you are in Grad School in US, if you are not sure how to introduce yourself to a group of members within facebook, you have to do some serious learning to improve your self-image and inter-personal skills, else you are going to learn the hard way.

Hard Way - With your resume, you might get a job interview,  if you don’t have good inter-personal skills and people skills,  it will be tough to get the job. Everything is inter-related, way of your speech, writing, behavior in online social media, networking events, … you have to build and create a brand for yourself. a brand that is unique to you. Then you have to know how to express and market your brand.

hey nice read but i would like to know about job opportunities in the pharma field..like prospects after M.S in any one of the pharma fields like for examsple Pharmaceutics..kindly enlighten …
