Not a chance, NJIT is a very reputed university w/ a GRE score of 980 – yur app is prob gonna end up in the bin
NYIT may look at yur app but i would find a backup
I wanted to point out that if u want NJIT to look at yur app w/ the bad GRE scores then u may want to consider using yur work experience to expalin the bad scores. outside duties/respon…. Hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My daughter has scored only 1110 in GRE (730 Q + 380 V & AW 3.5) yet to appear for TOEFL. Her BE agg till 6th SEM is 81%. She is a consistent performer all through her school and college but I am worried about her admission prospect because of her low GRE score.
UTA CSE page clearly states that their min req is 700 Q + 400 V. Does this mean her application will be rejected instantly?
In your blog, you have mentioned SUNY Stonybrook as one of the TOP 10 universities for 1110+ score. Do you think, she can really give a try at it? Also would like to know her chances in George Mason University.

I scored 920 in GRE(V=350 Q=570) and TOEFL: 96 AND importantly I applied a little late around end of Jan for fall 2010. I am admitted for MS Industrial Engineering at Western Michigan University. My research online about the University concluded that it is a pretty decent one(for my Score). Although my GRE score was low did 4 internships with different companies in college. I would like to have your opinion about this University (if its a decent one or not).

If I were you, I would apply to UK. You can’t get into any good US school with that terrible GRE score.

Your GRE score is alright. Verbal is a little bit low. Illinois springfield is a good option. I would also encourage you to look at UT-Dallas, UT-Arlington and NJIT.

A score of around 1100 or higher will be the minimum required to get into any decent program in Engineering. There are some small unknown type of schools that will take admissions even withing 1000-1100 range, but a degree from there will get you nowhere. Also, bad schools have less research budgets, so getting an assistantship in a small school will be very difficult.

870 is a horrible score. You should not be looking at ‘better’ universities if that is the level of your competence. If I were you, I would either go back and actually study for the GRE (Surprise! it’s an exam and you need to study to score well) or if you are not even interested in showing the minimum commitment to graduate school by actually studying for the GRE and taking the test, then go to Down Under. Australia is the el-dorado of mediocrity. You will have lot’s of options there. But with 870, you won’t make it to any decent schools in the US.

I took my gre and scored poorly in verbal section, i was scoring in 600 in VA at home but sadly ended up with 1110 score (770 QA and 340 VA). My credentials are :

You have a decent score. I would say apply to a number of different schools and see who pays you the most money in assistantships (this is a tough year for schools to offer assistantship money because of the budget cuts and more competition with many students going back to schools).

I think your 10th or Inter doesn’t matter much. The Universities need as many students as in this time of recession and economic crisis. If you are ready to finance yourself, you have a 99% chance to make it to any average school. I got into UT Arlington with a mere score of 940 back in 2003. I later went back to another school and graduated, currently working too. Don’t listen to crap about half knowledge people talking about 10th or scores. Make your SOP as tight and as true as possible. Communicate to professors in advance even before applying to show that you are interested. Its your hard work and determination that the professors look for and not just scores. Look at texas a&m commerce,LSU ruston, http://www.baylor.edu, findaystate in ohio, npu in freemont, texas a&M sanantonio, texas a&m laredo, university of houston in beaumont, clear lake university in houston, university of texas in san marcos, university of texas in fredericks burg…First decide if US is the place for you and later decide if you are capable of managing expenses even without a scholarship. Everything else is just a peace of cake my friends. India or US, a person can be successfull neverthless.

Hey. I got 1150 on my GRE’s. I’m American and I still fucked up my verbal. However I did get a 5.5 on my essays. Anyhow, I got 10 years work experience in Information Technology, Programming, Networking, SysAdmin and work for the DoD. I just got my BS in Computer Information Technology with a minor in Business Administration. My GPA at University of Maryland University College was 3.15. Anyhow, I have numerous accolades and a plethora of certifications. MSCE, CCNA, CCDA, CCENT, MCPD, Sec+, Net+, CEH, and MCTSx5. I have won International Competitions and have a few publications. Please let me know if i need to retake the GRE’s or if my scores are sufficient to get into the college I want.
I’m going to Apply to Auburn and VA Tech, because both have online programs. Also George Mason, and Illinois Institute of Technology, possibly.
@Amit – GRE Score is not the only factor considered for admission. With your qualification you should be able to get admission into Auburn, George Mason, IIT. VA Tech is 50/50 chance. Make sure you highlight all your skills in right place in your application documents. Do send copies of all the certifications. I don’t think you need to retake GRE. Apply now and you will know the results in 2 months.
I am interested in MS Forensic Science course. I have already taken the GRE exam and got 1020 [Q=710+v=310] and TOEFL yet to be taken. I don’t think you can find universities that will still accept application for Spring 2009. You can try Summer 2009, which starts in May 2009.

I wouldn’t suggest applying got engineering program for GRE Score less than 1000. you might get admit, but Visa is not sure.

Portland State University’s Mathematics MS doesn’t even require a GRE score. Many of our Masters students then go on to PhD’s at good schools.

@ Jaya : You can apply for universities. I have seen students even with lower score get admission and come to U.S. So, you can give it a try. Apply for 4-5 Universities thats accepts score less then 1000. there are many universities that accepts lower GRE score. Agian, GRE score is not the only facotr that will be considered for admission. Good luck.

Your GRE score is very low…I dont know how things will work out for u..there are few universities like Ball state univ, Kansas, Missisipi univ like that….Mine was 1440(v640,Q800,AWT 5.5)…better to go for higher study in india
