By HSB
Thanks to Tanushree for posting the University rankings for Material Science engineering programs in USA at Universities for GRE Score 1340
I will try my best to help you. I have joined the MS program in Materials Engineering in University of Houston. I have got financial aid in the form of RA. Here is a list of universities with their ranking in Materials Engineering program

Hi…Hi… I’m doin my masters in Materials Engg in IISc bangalore. I’m the
topper here with gpa 7.6 out of 8. Did B.tech in NIT jaipur with 8.91
gpa(one of the toppers)…I’m a GE foundation scholar for 2008-2010
period. I’ve done a social project with harvard students and IIT
students during u.g days for 2 months in a rural village(if it
helps…) I have a world conference proceeding while in U.G(i was the
chief author)and various presentations at IIT’s and IEI meetings.GRE:
1st attemp: 1340 (verbal:590, quant:750)…2nd attempt score: 1400
(verbal:610, quant:790)… I’d be getting promising reco’s from 2
profs here at IISc and an u.g(NIT jaipur) prof of mine. As a matter of
fact, I dont have an original research paper yet, though I have
research experience from my projects at IISc(on-going) and NIT jaipur
(U.g) and IIT-Madras summer project.
I’m aiming for cornegie melon for PhD mainly in computational materials Science. What’s my chance of making it?
or say, a higher ranked university like UC berkeley?
How should I choose the colleges i need to apply(i mean do i have to
do it the way people generally do? 3 from top 10, 3 from 10-20, 3 from
later or something like that?) or do u advise me another way?
and how many should i end up applying in what all regimes to have a fair chance in making it?
