Hope everyone had good weekend. During the weekend, I was chatting with current student from Missouri University of Science and Technology at Rolla. He was kind enough to sent a write up about University, Cost of Living and looks like International students get either Research or Teaching Assistantship. Thanks to Harish for sending the following information.
This is Harish from Missouri S&T, Rolla. Here are the admission details in ECE department.
1) Admission criterion
They look for a minimum of 730 in the Quantitative aptitude section of the GRE general test although no mention of verbal is mentioned. But they are very particular about the AWA section of the GRE where in they require a 4 for although 3.5 is the minimum for a student to be admitted. With 3.5 they probably look at undergraduate % for admission! I see that people with GRE Scores of 1150-1200 scores have been admitted.
2) Research Assistantship
The department of ECE has excellent funding scenario . To my knowledge almost every Fall’08 student got their out-state tuition fee waived(exceptions are always there) although they still have to pay their In-state tuition fee. The main source of funding is the RA. Students typically approach professors in the areas of interests and if there is a suitable match , they get an RA ship with a minimum of quarter time which is 10 hours per week. They get paid around $700-800 per month in this case.
But in some cases it may so happen that the professor might only waive the out-of-state tuition fee but might not pay anything. In that case the student doesn’t receive any thing as stipend but usually they start getting paid from the 2nd semester onwards.
3) Teaching Assistantship
This is generally not applicable to students in their first semester as they have to complete a minimum of 1 semester here at Rolla. During the end of the semester interested students have to give the SPEAK test and they have to clear the same to be considered for TA.
4) Facts & Figures
Out-State-Tuition fee – $8500 per semester inclusive of $450 towards health insurance
In-State-Tuition fee – $3500 per semester inclusive of $450 towards health insurance
Living expenses – $300-350 per month all inclusive of rent, food expenses, calling cards, electricity and so on
I hope this information helps. Please let me know if you do need any further information.
