MS in USA after MBA in India – Negative Effect on F1 Visa Stamping?
By HSB
What are the chances of getting Student F-1 Visa for MS in Computer Science after completing MBA in India?
Comment -
I have done engineering in computer science and then mba and have worked for 2 years in India. Now i have applied for MS in computer science and got admission in a university. During my visa interview, will my MBA have any negative effect on getting the visa? Since i want to do MS in computer science i applied for this program. Will they ask why i want to do MS after MBA?
Interesting question to answer. Two cases are possible for going to US to study MS in Computer Science after completing MBA in India.
- Case 1 – Easier Way to Go to Enter into United States
- Case 2 – Much interested in Technical Field than Business
Visa officer might ask you, why do you want to go to US for second Masters Degree. But, being prepared for all possible questions is the best you can do.
Case 1 – Easier Way to Enter into United States
Eventhough the comment says I really MS is what he/she wanted to do. If that were to be the case next question in the comments was
If so, how can i convince them that this is really what i want to do?
If you happen to read F1 Student Visa Interview Tips – Not Tricks, you will understand that it’s hard to get F1 Visa stamped when you lie to during the interview. Unless you are a very good liar.
If you are planning to go to US, just for the sake of entering to US, any fake answer you prepare will expose you. So, make sure you come up with very polished answer that would make some sense.
Case 2 – Much interested in Technical Field than Business
If it happens to the case where you are really interested to study in US and get that valuable education, you should have no problem in convincing the Visa Officer right? You are definitely going to speak the truth during interview and why do you want to be afraid if you plan to say the actual reason?
You have said “that what I want to Do”, then you will should have the explanations for that reasoning. If you didn’t have the reasoning for “I really want to do that” then you will fall into Case 1.
Good luck with your visa interview. Do share your experience after the Interview.

Hello,
I am Sazal from Bangladesh. I am a regular reader of HSB and always greatfull for its helpfull posts. I have got full funding for PhD in UTSA(University of Texas at San Antonio) for Fall 2009. I have appeared for F1 visa interview in 29th april. They kept my passport, gave me a confirmation letter saying that my visa application is successfull and additional admistrative processing is required which may take long time. My question is, how much time generally they take for additional processing for F1 visa? If they take much time(more than 3 months), then my academic session could me missed. So what should do then? Please reply me about this situation. Thank you very much.
Sazal
I was in the same situation 2 years ago, where I had worked for 2 years and had completed my MBA (Systems) in India as well. I had secured admission for MS – Computer Science for Fall 2007.
I had absolutely NO problems in the F-1 Visa Interview (lasted for 40 seconds).
I had never thought of this, as a negative impact. My advice to this individual is do NOT lie. I think its plain and simple: “I want to do MS – Computer Science solely out of my interest”
“And I did my MBA to learn the managerial side as well (again out of interest)”
(Americans favor higher eduation, there are so many people here in the US with double MS, like MS CS, and MS BioTech or so, some of them do BS Physics, MS CS and all different combos)
So, dont worry and be firm!!
All the Best!
u want to leave job and go back to school in this economy.
u are brave
i did a similar thing few years ago, i gave him the truth, even when they tried to corner me i was blunt with my answers and after a few comments (i think i was harsh on him) he smiled and gave me my visa
so my advice will be go with the truth, it gives u confidence. And confidence is all u need
I did MSc. in computer science. Now i am in the process of admission to ms in computer science from a US university. Will my MSc. create a problem during my f1 visa interview?
