Hi I am Sitasma and as my interview date is approaching nearer I am getting anxious.I found your website very helpful and informative. But still I want some guidance for my final day.My history is.
I scored very poorly in my GRE i.e 750 and toelf 78.Despite of that I got an I20 from US university with a full tuition waiver and a stipend. In my home country I completed my Masters in Anthropology with a distinction and was also a gold medalist for my Bachelor’s degree and now I applied to Masters Degree in Sociology at XXX university in US.

First of all I am afraid if they point me about my poor gre score despite of having a very good academic background.

Secondly,if they tell me why I didnt apply for Phd and why Masters again how should I answer in that case. Please help me on this as these two questions are revolving on my mind and I am not getting a right answer.

    Hii ,, mama,

I got I-20 for PhD in Physics ..In I-20 they mentioned my expenses with tuition fee and everything as $24K and my total value of GA as $27K. so I am getting excess of $3000 for one year..

Now my question is how much I have to show at the time VISA interview?

My father is farmer .My father doesn’t have any liquid assets but we have lands and immovable property around———–

I can show my maternal uncle and aunt liquid assets around 15 lakh…and immovable assets around 50 Lakhs,, they both are doctors..what are the documents I have to show ?

Is it ok if I do like this?

    Hi,

Your blog is really good. I have a doubt regarding the Affidavit of Support. If my parents are sponsoring my education,

Do we need to get affidavit of support in a stamp paper?
    (or)
IS getting affidavit of support as a letter from my parent is enough?

    • praveen reddy says:

    Dear Raghu,
Yours website in an excellent source for the students to get genuine information. I got alot of help from ‘happyschoolsblog.com” regarding the basic information. I didn’t have any idea before about the technical terms. But yours site is really awesome. I was denied student visa last time. I want some guidance from you. I hope that many other students also be facing the situation like of mine. Please answer me. My situation is as below:
My name is Varun Kumar. I am from India.
I applied for student visa to US in January 2009. I was accepted at a community college in an associate degree. When I went to the interview, the officer asked me several questions. Though I answered many but few questions were not answered efficiently. Actually, I was nervous being my first interview at any foreign consulate.
They asked me that “Why I want to pursue degree in US and why not in India?”
They also asked me about my percentage in senior secondary. I don’t have good percentage. I told them everything truthfully.
They inquired me about my family and asked that whether I know someone in US.
Well, I didn’t know anyone in US. I answered them no.
During the interview, they didn’t saw my financial documents. They just saw the I-20, my passport, MRV fee slip and other forms.
The visa officer denied my visa stating that she is not convinced. After sometime, I requested them to send me the visa rejection letter.
They send me an email. The email stated that my visa was rejected under Section 214(b)of Immigration and Nationality act.
I have prepared all the answers now. But my query is that will they ask me these questions again or will they ask me something different. Another thing that I want to know is that “Do USA grants visa for community colleges?”
My percentage is not so good. I completed my senior secondary in March 2008. The interviewer also asked me that “What I have been doing till January?” Well I was so much interested and confident about my visa that I didn’t enrolled at any educational institutions anywhere in India. I am admitted into the community college on behalf of senior secondary, so there was no purpose of getting enrolled at educational institution in India. But the visa officer didn’t understand this fact.
“I want o know that whether my unsatisfactory answers were responsible for visa denial?”
If it is so, then what should be done?
    I want to reapply.
I have prepared the answers now. But my query is that will they ask me these questions again or will they ask me something different.
Is this thing also responsible for the visa rejection. What circumstances of mine should I change to reapply.
