I have always wanted to create this page for Rumors and Stories HSB readers have posted in comments (or via email). Some of the rumors are true and some or just rumors.
I have started collecting such comments. Book mark this page, it will make you smile at times. Most of the comments go unnoticed by majority of the readers.
New GRE
- I heard that ETS will be offering Old GRE pattern for 2 more months. Is that True?
- Planning to write in last week of july. But no dates showed up since 2 weeks. But today 22 appeared in all centres n obv got over very quicky.any idea if the rumor tat last test for july would be till july 23?
- hi there see each section is of 170 marks each. so total is 340 quant and 340 verbal. awa is of 6.
- I heard that the new GRE scores are valid only from 2012 – july intake of universities . Is it true ? If I give the new GRE ,is it necessary that I have to wait for a year to apply universities ?? Please reply
Admission
- But is it true that admissions in P.hd take place at all the times of the year…there is no specific date for deadlines in Phd…? I have heard that M.S has deadlines but admissions for P.hd take place at all times in the year..?
- Will it be good to take the new gre in november for fall 2012. I have heard that most universities have deadlines around dec15 or jan15. So will i get enough time to apply?
- I heard that if a person is shifting from one branch to another , then he must take 3-4 subjects extra while doing ms , is it true ?
- I heard from my seniors that research can be an option only if you get into top universities in US like CMU. The rest of the universities are more IT job oriented. Is that true?
- I didn’t knew that one needs to apply to atleast 3-4 univs for Visa chances. Only after I got rejected first time, I searched for possible reasons and that’s how I came across HSB. Had I knew about this, I would have applied to 5-6 universities.
- The day I got rejected, I asked few universities If I could still apply. I got positive reply from 4-5 univs but somebody told me that there’s no point applying now since, I’ve already told them that I applied to one univ and that’s stored in their database.
- I heard from some of my friends that it is not advisable to get all the 3 recommendation letters from the same department people(scientists, professors). Is it so? Will it reduce the impact on our application, if the recommendation letters are from same department scientists/professors of the same institution?
Job Search
- I heard rumors that Fall end (Dec-Jan) is not the main recruiting session. So for those who graduate at the end of Fall, it is relatively more difficult to find a job than who complete at the end of Spring. Is it true?
- I heard that doing MS from a low rank university causes lots of problem in placements.Please guide me for the universities!
F1 Visa
- I don’t know whether its a rumor or exact news from Obama. The news is that US govt is issuing F1 visa’s for just 2 years? and students are not supposed to work off campus.. and they need to stay in the campus during their course. After the course the students have to return back?
- I have heard cases whereby people say it is advisable to apply beginning of the month for F1, because towards the end of the month the available quota gets filled up and becomes more competitive.
- I heard that chennai visa consulate will give f1 visa for dual masters . Am a mca student , I want to do masters in computer science. but my visa is rejected for first time in chennai because of dual masters.
H1B Visa
- I heard lots of stories abt visas getting revoked if u have a vendor in between..I want to know how true is this?Pls,help!!!
- What are my chances for 2nd time? I am so heart broken and nervous because i’ve heard that one rejection follows another rejection….

HEY ,this post is absolutely misleading…bt i have ans’s for som ques’s. like each section is not of 170 marks. the total gre score is reflected on a scale of range b/w 130 to 170. {it includes all sections}

Maybe HSB doesn’t know which is true and which is false.
I heard–that you don’t get scholarship once you mention in toefl(there are demographics qs) that your family can finance your studies ..??

This isa useless post if you simply group the rumors together. Please do add your input as well. No one knows whats true from above or not. So we’re looking for some valuable opinion from you, HSB.
since the new gre started universities will not accept the old gre scores starting from fall 2012….a rumour which is not at all true….
hoping for the reply soon from hsb. whether these are rumours or the facts.. do give us a clear idea of it.. i’m thinking for the spring intake.

Hi,
1st, I have done my MCA, 2010 sept passed out. I appeared for my F1 visa at Chennai consulate on 3rd aug and 11th aug and it was rejected both the times under 214(b) even though having 60% of scholarship for first year and performance scholarship for 2nd year.
2nd, I’m still finding the answers for the my rejection. Chennai consulate is bit tough to get a VISA. There were many rejection on both dates. It was very important for me to get a F1 Visa and to do my MS in Computer Science. I have worked very hard to it. It’s not Just an foreign that i am adding to my qualification.
3rd, I didn’t had any Financial problem. I answered to all the questions with perfect touch
4rd, Some times it depends on Visa Interview Officer consider many protocols before issuing a VISA.
So what r rumors and what is reality?
