New to Twitter? Don’t Worry – Just Read This

Twitter is very powerful medium. When Orkut was launched students started using it, it spread like a wild fire. New users of Orkut spread the word on how much fun they had with Orkut.

Twitter is going crazy at rate much faster than Orkut. Inorder to understand the power of Twitter, you need to start using it. Just creating a Twitter profile and have few tweets is not going to help you.

When people around the world, news paper, blogs .. start talking about Twitter, you need to try it out and see for yourself. Twitter can be used for pretty much anything.

New Twitter User

If you are new to twitter here are few things you can do with Twitter

1. Start following your friends
2. Invite your friends to create a new Twitter Account
3. Tweet daily and often, even if you have no followers.
4. Get to know latest news ( from Trending Topics)
5. Search for new resources ( Example GRE, TOEFL, H1B Visa, GRE Books, ..)
6. Take part in conversation

Above 6 things will get you started with Twitter. Once you have some 20 to 30 tweets and some followers, then you will realize the features it can offer.

Everytime you tweet, you are getting closer to understand the power of Twitter. Once you get to know the Twitter Jargons, you can feel the power of it. Since you can write only 140 characters, you tend to convey the message directly without beating around the bush.

Example 1 – Job Search with Twitter

You are about to complte your Masters degree in US and after applying for jobs to companies and there is no interview call. Then you decide to search jobs using twitter. Almost all the hiring managers and HR are using twitter to find potential candidates.

You find company HR’s and send them a tweet "Looking for Job as Network Engineer. My profile matches Network Engineer Job Id 645 recently posted in your company Link to resume. Thanks”

How to find HR and others Twitter Users? Thats what you will learn as you use twitter regularly.

Example 2 – Job Opportunities in Twitter

All the companies are now posting new jobs in twitter even before posting in company website. Tweet can be tagged for specific keywords. You maybe be searching for job in Biotechnology field.

So, do a quick search on keyword “Biotech Jobs&” any new postings will be displayed and you can be the first person to apply for that job.

Example 3 – Business Opportunity

You might be running a Professional resume writing company. To find clients, you can use twitter to see who is searching for jobs or other tweets with keyword “resume”. Read their tweet and see if you can help them to review and edit your resume.

If you have your company’s URL in your profile, they will visit your site and if they are interested, they can order a resume review.

Power of Twitter

As you can see from above 3 examples, Twitter can be very powerful if used in the right way. But, to get there you need to start using Twitter. If you want to learn something new, you have to spend time with it. Having 0 followers and 0 tweets is not going to help Ajay.  So,don’t be like Ajay.
