What does this mean to students who will be graduating from college in next 12 month?
- Pick one IT Skill, that you already have done projects or taken courses.
- Spend ton of time improving your skills
- Read research papers
- Take courses
- Publish new paper
- Do a project
- Take Certifications
- Join Google Groups and relevant forums and contribute actively
If you are looking for Computer Science specialization for Masters program, now you have list of 10 different areas to choose from.
Project management is something you gain from Experience, rest of the IT skills can be self-taught or through projects and internships.
One of the biggest mistake is not knowing what kind of job you want. If you are looking for job in IT field, pick up a specific area and get good at it.










I don’t think this article should be titled as IT Skills as programming is like basic alphabets for IT.
If u want to get good job, select any one programming language and do lots of practice problems in that. From website like geeksforgeek.org
When u say IT I would say top IT Skills needed in Industry are
1) Big Data (Hadoop/Hive)
2) Python
3) Web Programming (Making a website, Handing http requests, Database handling)
Good idea is to create your own website and keep adding stuff on that.
4) Data Mining and Machine Learning
If you know these three in good amount then you can get really good job in industry.
Certification add value but not on the cost of learning as someone would never pay u for certification you have, but for the work u can do.

Good to see that Security has made the list [and featuring among top 4]. I would rate that as good as no 1 though, cause really IT security has been denied as an important factor for far too long.In India, still it is neglected and considered as a non-worthwhile function.
