in College Admission

This article is continuation of steps involved in transferring to new University after spending atleast 1 semester in the school you got Visa stamped for. Here link to part 1 – University and I-20 Transfer

4) Do we need to fill out any special application?

Applying to as International student transfer is same as Application process when you applied for the first time. During the application process you will fill out additional information like, your current school, GPA, courses completed.

Since you are already here in U.S. you can apply even after the deadline. They will be flexible with the deadline. Some schools might ask you to pay additional fee to process late application.

5) How to apply for admission while transferring?

See Question 4 for answer.

Also, its always good to contact the Graduate Adviser of the Department yo are apply and talk to him before the application or during the application process. That might increase you chances of getting admission. Personal touch always adds value.

6) What additional requirements are needs for International Student Transfer?

Some schools would require you to write additional Statement of Purpose explaining why you are requisition transfer. Some typical case include

  • Not satisfied with course quality
  • No Part time jobs or RA/TA is available
  • Less job/internship scope after graduation
  • Personal problems in the school environment

Universities are considerate in the transfer process, if you give genuine reason to transfer, they will consider you application. Suppose, you have very less GPA from current school due to personal problems or health reasons or if you don’t like to study in particular environment that made you perform less than you capacity, and if you state that reason, and if you had good Undergraduate records and GRE, they will be happy to give you admission.

7) When can I get transfer?

Usually, you can get transfer only after 1 semester of courses in the school you got visa for. but, I have heard 1 student say he got transfer in the first semester itself. But I haven’t verified that information yet. If I get any updates on that I will update this section in future.
