The address on my passport is my college hostel address and not my permanent address. All other documents Driving license, Pan card , ration card everything has my permanent address.

Passport Address
You will not have any issues with visa interview when address in passport is different from your current or permanent address.
It will take one day to change the address in the passport, provided you have address proof for new address.
But, as far USA visa interview, you will not have any problem. Make sure you give the right address at VFS for passport delivery, when scheduling the appointment.

Did you mean that one can get the address changed in passport here in India within a day with all the proofs in hand?
Yup. I had my address changed in a day several years back. All you need to proof (like ration card or voters id). Take your copy of id, originals, submit in the morning and pickup the passport same day afternoon. I think you can now apply for change of address via in-person and online.
Correct me if I am wrong. You can definitely get the address fixed pretty quick, but that will be a new passport booklet. I don’t think there is a way to change address in existing booklet.
It could have changed now, but when I got some minor change done on my passport 5-6 years back in Bangalore I got a new passport booklet and for a brief period I had to carry two passports everywhere coz of some stamps in old passport.
My address was changed in the same passport. There was an entry in one of the pages with new corrected address.
That’s what I thought when I saw your comment. I know it takes the passport office a few days to get the new booklet ready.
I am probably living in a different era or may be I work too hard and only things I see or understand are SANs and SSDs.

It would have taken one day for you, but there are many cases I have heard whose passport was struck for about 6 months. They all applied in Tatkaal quota but they did not get for 7 months. ABout 15 cases I have heard. They have submitted all req. documents correctly. Still their passports were on hold.
If there is no problem with the college address on passport then why people want to risk their passport by submitting !!!
If it gets expired then one should think about renewal case !!!
Correct me if I am wrong, but I have this feeling that you are talking about cases you read on some forums.
The forums only have the cases with problems, no one comes and posts that I went to the passport office and got my passport fixed in 1 day.
Just want to make sure that you are not making an opinion based on incomplete data.
When I got my first visa, my passport had Delhi address, my mailing address was Bangalore and the consulate was Chennai. No questions ever asked.
If you think logically, US has nothing to care about your passport address.
Even I’m facing the same problem.
Passport address- Bangalore
Permanent address- Kerala
Consulate planning to go- Chennai.
So, could HSB or anybody else please help me by giving a detailed information about this matter. Bcoz I was planning to go for an address renewal.

I agree with Pranav.Situation w.r.t passport is gloomy here in India.HSB and others would be amongst the few lucky ones.There are lots of backlog cases at regional passport offices.Even getting an appointment set at the rpo and waiting in the serpentine queues will be a daunting task.As far as I know they don’t take fresh and reissue cases of passport anymore(to override the power of touts and agents).

I still havent got a feedback from my querry so I thought I’ll post it here.
My sponsor happens to be in the US, actaully a US citizen. I also have all document except the affidavit of support.
Regarding the affidavit of support, I asked my sponsor to type out a signed letter indicating ableness and preparedness to supposor me. Pls bare in mind that he is sending me only a letter of support and not the standard affidavit of support found on the US website. Now I want to know if the letter he is typing is enough or its is mandatory to actaully fill out the standard affidavit of support form.
If you are reading this please attempt to give me a feedback as I dont have enough time left. My I-20 came in late, I’m yet to schedule an interview and I’m to report by 23rd August.
