Intermediate % is 87%

I need a little advice on a problem of mine and feel that you would be the best to advice me on the same. I am presently doing an internship in a company for a period of one month. They are ready to provide me with the recommendation letter for the same. Does the letter need to have a specific format? Should i let the writer know about my SOP n stuff? their letter is gonna be one of the recommendation letters that m gonna send to the universities along with my gre scores..so shud provide them vit points that i feel should be mentioned so that the universities take notice? Would it be unethical if i provide them with a sample letter and ask dem to make changes wherever appropriate? Or else can i ask them to make the changes in the letter later?

I`m in a dilemma regarding the “work experience” that US colleges ask for from students who want to pursue Masters course. Does the bpo experience in India count as work experience? An admission counsellor told me that the experience is not counted unless the position is of managerial level. Is it true ? From these articles I have gathered that it`s best to do one`s own research and apply than to pay heavy fee to the admission counsellors.

Hi i am Sailesh. I am so sad and dejected that after 6 months of preparation i got 1070 in GRE (Q-690,V-380), the score completely jeopardized my plan to apply for fall session. The minimum requirement for UTA is Q700 and V400, will my scores be considered? Or should i retake the exam..i am in dilemma. Yes, you have to take GRE. you may be eligible to waive TOEFL, check with university.

1.Does US counselor contact University for Bank Statement while at visa interview.

Though both these tests (as is the third test called the Pearson Test of English Academic) are mapped to what is known as the Common European Framework of reference (CEFR), score portability is yet not an acceptable phenomenon.
If you are interested in finding out how your scores comparea against the CEF, you could take a look at the concordance table on the Pearson PTE website: http://pearsonpte.com/PTEAcademic/Pages/TestScores.aspx

@Ashwin – From your previous test score, see which section you got less scores. Decidate time to improve your skills one section at a time. You cannot improve your skils overnight. It’s a process and it takes time. Good luck.

About to take TOEFL in short.
Work Experience : 2years ( by september 2010 )
Working for a reputed Indian company, my domain is Wireless Communications
My job designation : Design & Development Engineer

I’m basically aiming for an admit in a decent university for 2011 spring admit ( Electrical Engineering, with specialization in wireless/DSP ). I’m not suppose to resign my job till September 2010, so not in a position to apply for the coming fall.
Also my extra curricular activities are good, my doubt is that will this GRE score be sufficient to apply for a decent universities like ASU, UFL, Minnesota ( twin cities ), else would you ask me to retake the GRE?
By what time I need to be ready with GRE and TOEFL scores in case if I’m applying 2011 spring?
Also suggest me whether its better to try for 2011 spring or 2011 fall admit? I heard spring admission is bit difficult when compared to fall.
2011 fall will be late for me, so aiming for spring.

Questions:

7.1.2. Do the limits on unemployment apply to any periods of unemployment prior to April 8, 2008?
No, the limits on unemployment do not apply retroactively.

7.1.3. Do the limits apply to students who had post-completion OPT approved before April 8, 2008?
For students who started post-completion OPT prior to April 8, 2008, unemployment time will accrue only for time spent unemployed after April 8, 2008. Time unemployed prior to April 8, 2008 will not be counted.

My question, is does this apply only for 2008 or it will apply for 2010 as well, because i am graduating on dec 12, my opt starts at feb 1, so how can can i be unemployed…

whether my unemployment count starts on feb 1 2010, or it will start on april 8 2010.

Hi all, my name is Paris Carbone and I’m from Greece.
I have finished my BSc on Computer Science in Athens along with extensive research and work and I plan to attend a MSc program of my interest in Europe (or maybe US) next year.
I have taken my TOEFL iBT results recently and I got a 108.
However, there is an issue I’d like to solve before sending my applications to institutions.
On the TOEFL results report I’m going to send them(along with an official copy from ETS)
I have been registered with my father’s name ‘Aris’ as a middle name; hence, the full name appeared is
“Carbone, Paris Aris”.
Here in Greece we are usually give our father’s name as a middle name whenever it is needed even though there is nothing like a middle name in our passports and IDs.
Regarding this information, I would be grateful if you could assure me whether there could be an
issue or not with my middle name appeared on the TOEFL reports when I’ll send them my applications. I really need an answer.

Hi , I recently gave my GRE and scored 980 (Quants: 650, Verbl: 330), i have a 52% average in my academic career (B.E. in computer engg. ), 67% in 10th ( CBSE board), and 65% in 12th (CBSE board). I have yet to give my TOEFL. I wish to pursue a MS program in Computer Sciences Engineering, in the US. I plan to start off the course in August 2010.
Do I have a valid chance of securing admission in any of the reputed schools in the US. Is my GRE score valid, or is is better if i give my GRE again. And what scores should i secure, in order to make my application more appealing.
Please list the names of any universities I have chances of getting into and their recognition levels. Will I have job prospects in the US after I graduate from any of these universities?

you should write GRE & TOEFL if you want to enter good university for your M.S
decent score in gre around 1350 will lead you to good university along with other factors , your GPA,LOR, SOP,TOEFL score

it is not to discourage you, your score in GRE
is very low can you guide me how much u scored in q and v and aw
and your toefl score is definitely very poor
the normal score is far away from your score my dear Anitha J
you can do one thing if you are really serious
write again after getting some good tuition in some good coaching class.
by the way your name looks indian, where are you from , which part of india,
though there are many colleges that require no GRE but toefl is needed

I am actually planning for this January session so i think i am not having much time to take again the tests and i am looking for universities with no test scores consideration. I am actually thinking if i could get admission to at least in a low rank university so that i can transfer to a better one after completion of one semester. So, kindly could you tell those universities which offer admission without any test scores consideration. never mind even its a bit low rank university.

it is difficult to get in, since you need to communicate in English, you better use Google search to find answer instead of asking here. or else there are many Andra people are already in USA

Hi.. i have taken GRE “twice”.. first in sep ’08 and second in sep ’09.. i scored 1060 anD mentioned 4 universities… the second time i scored 1130..
After i had taken the test for the second time, i received the score card, but it was the score card of the first attempt…

i applied for 3 univ’s with my “first (1060)” score, and the 3 univ’s that i applied, i did not mention them in the free reporting.
So when i received my score card after second attempt, It was the first attempt score card, but with the name of the 3 universities that i applied..

1. Why is this so?
2. When will i be receiving my score card for the second attempt?
3. Is this supposed to happen or a mistake?

The second time i have taken the test, i have mentioned 4 other univ’s and applied for 1 univ from that 4….

Q: And what is “cumulative” score?

Hello Friends,
I plan to do my M.S and follow it up with a P.hd. in Communications /embedded systems/wireless communications
.(I currently have 3 options regarding my masters and havent yet finalized!)
I graduated with
—B.Tech Electronics and Communication in may 2009 with a cgpa of 7.55
—10 th standard(CBSE)-88%
—12 th standard(CBSE)-87%.
I was pretty late in deciding the M.S option.
I would like to have a roadmap in approaching the GRE and toefl.and the amount of TIME that would be generally required for preparation so that i can fix my test dates accordingly.

As far as studying for GRE & TOEFL goes i would like to know a couple of points
1) Has the question pattern changed over the years..despite moving to CAT as i have purchased asecond hand Barrons 12 th Edition..would it suffice..or shall i have to go for a later edition
2)If there is a change in the syllabus please be kind enuf to let me know which part has changed.
Please recommend a target score that i should be working for in order to secure admissions with a suitable scholarship to a good university.

gre get the maximum mark, if your capacity to get 1600 out of 1600 is fabulous. you have the capacity, why curtail it. friend

i have given gre and have got 1280.My quants :760 and verbal =520.
i have done my Be comp engineering from mumbai university with overall aggr 59.8%.However,my final year aggr is 62% but i had a backlog in my 7thsem which i cleared along with my 8thsem.
Also i have 1 year work ex till date.

170 Krishna September 6, 2009 at 3:52 PM: Go through the site and u will find answers more than what u asked for.My personal opinion:You can get a scholarship or assistantship for a GRE score > 1200.any score less than that will decrease your chances drastically.BTW getting score > 1200 doesnt guarantee you a scholarship, there are many other factors universities look before they announce a scholarship to a candidate.
Do some searching before u ask next question.

I have a GRE score of 1260 ( 560 – verbal and 700- quantitative) and a TOEFL iBT score of 109.
I have done Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology from Mumbai univ and have a work experience of 2+ years in IT industry.
I wish to pursue MS in MIS actually.
Due to personal reasons I want admission in only that university which is near or around Nashville.
So I have opted for Middle Tennessee State University(MTSU). I wish to know how is CS and CIS in MTSU?
Does anyone have any idea if CIS is similar to MIS in MTSU?
How are the chances of getting RA, TA, GA or financial aid in MTSU?
How are the faculty in both the departments?
Also does anyone have any idea about any other universities in or near Nashville?
I know about Tennessee State University at Nashville and Vanderbilt university.
Both these universities don’t have MS in MIS I suppose and moreover Vanderbilt doesn’t have application for Spring for CS.

hi,i am currently on am f-1 visa and got my h-1b approval recently. My classes for this term ends in last weeek of august and effectivity for my h-1b is oct.1..since i wanted to get rid of my being a student since it’s too expensive i filed for a term vacation from school since I am eligible as an international student. I already asked permission from the school and 90% it will be approved although I haven’t received any reply from them yet..My question is do i need to inform them next month when my vacation starts that I will no longer enroll in the coming term since I will be working and changing my status? please help!

Hello Sir,

I have completed my B.E. in Computer Science with an aggregate of 69%. I have given the GRE twice with the best score being 1120 (Q 700+V 420) and 4.5 (AWA). I have two projects in my 8th semester one of which was carried out as a research project at “The Central Research Laboratory”, Bangalore (which is a premier research institute that comes under the defense ministry of India and Bharath Electronics – worked for 3 months there as a project trainee). I also have worked for July Systems, Inc. for a period of 3 months. With some good recommendation letters and a score of 100 and above in TOEFL, is it possible for me to get an admit in any of the universities in the US? If so, can you please tell me the top ten universities where I can apply and also can you please tell me if I can apply for spring 2010.

I will give more information if needed…Please help me out!!!

Actually a bit confused about the GPA Part.We are given GPA in our masters but not in bachelors.Again our percentages are low comparinfg to other universities,specially in bachelors.Getting a first class marks in bachelors is really tough for us.Which I have my percentage is 63% on bachelors and the GPA in masters is 4.89/6.Is this ok for US Universities????

Your extra qualification in India is not relevant.
Why don’t you apply for MS + Phd? That enhances ur chances of admission.
But if u r looking for MIT, Stanford, look at ur academics, your research papers, your GRE scores!

Your GRE score is not very impressive. Are you planning to take it again?

Your academics are good. There are a lot of courses in env science and it is very much the in thing now.

The course you choose will depend on three things
1) your finances
2) you intention after your studies
3) your scores in gre and toefl

Hi..i wanted to know about how is gre powerprep scores related to main exam scores? actually i had taken up the gre exam on feb 18th and got 920(510 in maths and 410 in verbal)..and since it doesnt meet the gre score requirement for my university, i am retaking the test on this 20th april..i didnt practise much the gre powerprep tests during 1st attempt..but now i have taken up both the practise tests in powerprep and i got 1000 and 1070 score resp. and when i regave the practise test 1 i got 1280 score..so i wanted to know how much would the score in main exam differ frm this?

Respected sir,
I need a little advice on a problem of mine and feel that you would be the best to advice me on the same. I am presently doing an internship in a company for a period of one month. They are ready to provide me with the recommendation letter for the same. Does the letter need to have a specific format? Should i let the writer know about my SOP n stuff? their letter is gonna be one of the recommendation letters that m gonna send to the universities along with my gre scores..so shud provide them vit points that i feel should be mentioned so that the universities take notice? Would it be unethical if i provide them with a sample letter and ask dem to make changes wherever appropriate? Or else can i ask them to make the changes in the letter later?

I have got a GRE score of 920
ie apps : 610
vocab : 310

Can anyone suggest me good universites which accepts this score.
So I can process my applications further.
